Opposition...

Barnsley had a strong season last term and were in contention to gain promotion from League One after finishing in sixth place with 76 points but lost in the semi-finals of the playoffs to Bolton Wanderers 5-4 on aggregate.

The Tykes opened the new campaign with a 2-1 loss to Mansfield Town at Oakwell but are unbeaten in their last three outings in the third tier. They have beaten Lincoln City and Crawley Town either side of a draw to Northampton.

Barnsley were busy in the transfer market, adding goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina on loan from Chelsea and Matthew Craig from Tottenham Hotspur.

Conor Hourihane has returned to Barnsley after leaving Derby County, with Stephen Humphrys and Marc Roberts on free transfers. The other notable addition includes George Gent permanently moving from Blackburn Rovers.
