MATCH PREVIEW

Barnet v Bristol Rovers
Sky Bet League Two, The Hive London, Tuesday 9 December 2025, 3pm KO

Bristol Rovers will play Barnet in the Football League for the first time since January 2016 when they travel to The Hive London on Tuesday night.

The Pirates will be looking to bounce back after losing 1-0 to Port Vale in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup on the weekend, with Ben Waine netting the only goal two minutes after the break.

The Gas return to Sky Bet League Two action, hoping to end their eight-game losing streak in the fourth tier, previously falling to a 1-0 loss to promotion hopefuls Notts County despite dominating the majority of the contest.

Barnet were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup in the first round by Fleetwood Town, so have not played since drawing 1-1 with Harrogate Town at the end of November.

Opposition...

Barnet returned to Sky Bet League Two after seven seasons of non-league football, after winning the National League title with a game to spare last term.

The Bees finished on an astonishing 102 points, recovering from play-off heartbreak in the two previous seasons. Losing in the quarter-finals and semi-finals to Boreham Wood and Solihull Moors, respectively, Dean Brennan's men lifted the title with a game to spare in the 2024/25 campaign.

Barnet lost their first three fixtures in Sky Bet League Two but found their feet with back-to-back away wins over Swindon Town and Cheltenham Town before ending August with a draw against Colchester United. Their results have been inconsistent since, but they have drawn their previous five fixtures in the fourth tier, their longest ever run of draws in the Football League.

Previous Meetings...

Rovers won their first Football League away game against Barnet in October 1993, but are winless in their previous five trips, drawing three and losing two.

Rivals in the 2014/15 Conference Premier season, with Barnet beating Rovers by one point to claim the title, the two teams also won a game each. The Bees beat the Gas 2-0 at home before the Pirates got their revenge at The Memorial Stadium, with Ángelo Balanta netting a stoppage-time winner after Luisma cancelled out Matty Taylor's opener.

In different leagues for almost a decade, the last two meetings between the clubs came in the Emirates FA Cup back in November 2018. After a 1-1 draw at The Hive, Barnet came from behind to beat the Gas 2-1 at The Mem.
