MATCH PREVIEW

Accrington Stanley v Bristol Rovers
Sky Bet League Two, Wham Stadium, Saturday 15 November 2025, 3:00pm KO

Bristol Rovers will be looking to make it back-to-back victories in all competitions when they travel to Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League Two.

The Pirates returned to winning ways on Tuesday night, with Kamil Conteh scoring a last-minute winner over Plymouth Argyle in the Vertu Trophy. His late strike meant Rovers finished top of the Southern Group B in the competition, with the Pirates now guaranteed a home draw in the Round of 32 draw on Thursday 13 November.

Rovers have won two of their three fixtures in November, earning triumphs in the Emirates FA Cup and Vertu Trophy, but are winless in five Sky Bet League Two outings. Last weekend, the Gas were defeated by Gillingham, with Max Clark scoring the only goal of the match against the run of play. Conteh hit the bar and Freddie Issaka had an effort cleared off the line in the final seconds, but Darrell Clarke's men could not find an equaliser.

Accrington have had an indifferent start to the 2025/26 season, with three wins and five draws – their most recent draw being against Chesterfield. A brace from Tyler Walton gave the Reds the upper hand before the Spireites turned the score around. Stanley levelled the fixture at 3-3 through Charlie Caton, but would have lost it late on if it was not for Lee Bonis seeing his late penalty saved by Ollie Wright.

Opposition...

Accrington have swung between Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two since being promoted into the EFL Football Pyramid in the 2005/06 season. They first won promotion to Sky Bet League One in the 2017/18 term, finishing top of the league after wins against Wycombe Wanderers, Port Vale and Chesterfield.

The Reds were relegated in the 2022/23 season, despite a final-day 2-1 win against Oxford United, and have played in the fourth tier of English football ever since.

Andy Holt’s side have had a successful start to their FA Cup campaign, with a 2-1 victory over Gainsborough Trinity, and they are set to play Mansfield Town in early December. The team has historically reached the fourth round on three occasions.

However, they have had a difficult start to the Sky Bet League Two 2025/26 season, sitting 20th in the table with 14 points. They have won three games, drawn five and lost seven, but a 3-3 draw with Chesterfield and a 4-0 win over Swindon Town back in October show they have goals in their side and can be a threat to anyone.

The hosts will be looking to improve on last season after finishing 21st in the fourth tier, eight points above the relegation zone. Despite a tricky campaign, a highlight was playing Premier League winners Liverpool at Anfield in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup. They were defeated 4-0 after goals from Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jayden Danns and Federico Chiesa.

Previous Meetings...

Stanley have got the better of Rovers in recent meetings and have only lost one of their last 13 games against the Pirates. The last time the two teams met was in the 2022/23 Sky Bet League One campaign, where Accrington collected six points from the two matches.

The last time Rovers beat their upcoming opponents was in March 2021, with Luke Leahy, Alex Rodman, Sam Nicholson and Zain Westbrooke scoring in a 4-1 victory at The Memorial Stadium. The Gas have never won away at Accrington, so will be looking to make history this weekend.
