Macauley Southam-Hales was left embarrassed by Bristol Rovers' defeat to Tranmere Rovers at The Memorial Stadium and wants his side to bounce back after a difficult run of results.

The Pirates fell to their third straight defeat in Sky Bet League Two and their second at The Mem, with the visitors coming away with a 4-1 victory. Nathan Smith headed in the opener for the Super White Army before a second-half brace from Connor Jennings and Josh Davison gave Tranmere a commanding lead.

Alfie Chang got one back for the Gas, but it was not enough to save the Pirates from a defeat at home.

Macauley Southam-Hales reflected on the disappointing defeat and wants to put things right next week.

You get a chance next week to rewrite it and start another run. We only do that by sticking together, getting amongst it at the training ground and really putting in the work.

“It was embarrassing and disappointing," he said. "It's hard to put into words, really, but we’ve got to regroup and go again and put it right next week.”

"We were miles off it. I'm not going to beat around the bush. We have to stick together, get through this patch, and try again to put it right.

The Pirates have lost their last three fixtures in Sky Bet League Two after an impressive eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions, with five wins coming in the fourth tier.

With the Pirates squad showing plenty of potential earlier in the campaign, Southam-Hales knows it only takes one result to start another good run.

“We went eight unbeaten and no bad team does that," said the defender. "We’ve got to regroup and get together and put things right. The only way to do that is by working hard and getting on the training ground.

Despite the difficult result, the Gasheads at The Mem were with the team all the way and showing their support, with Southam-Hales hoping his side could give them something to get behind.

"We know it’s on ourselves," he said. "We’ve got to give them something to get behind and stick with us, but we can’t thank them enough for today."
