Lindsay: It's a good chance for us to get back out there and play

Jamie Lindsay is looking forward to Bristol Rovers' away tie to Cardiff City in the first-round of the Carabao Cup.

It is a quick turnaround for the Gas, who make the trip to Wales only three days after beating Northampton Town 1-0 thanks to Bryant Bilongo’s 92nd-minute goal.

Reflecting on the dramatic win against the Cobblers, Lindsay believes Rovers can gain confidence from their first opening-day win since August 2011.

“It was a relief to get the three points,” he said. “Somebody said before the game there’s not been a win in 13 years, so it should build confidence in the group, and we can look forward now.”

August will be a busy month for the Pirates, who still have five games to play in three different competitions.

Manager Matt Taylor previously stated that everyone will get a chance, with Lindsay almost certainly set to get more time on the pitch after coming off the bench with 13 minutes of regulation time left to play to help the Gas beat Northampton.

The midfielder is excited for the test against Championship outfit Cardiff but believes nothing can be taken from the pre-season friendly loss against the Bluebirds.

“They're a Championship side; we played them last week and obviously have a good bit of quality," said Lindsay. “It's a good stadium, and some of the lads probably need more minutes. It's a good chance for us to get back out there and play.

“Pre-season friendlies are totally different. You'll probably see them make a good few changes, and I imagine we'll probably make the same. It's good that we've seen them last week, but it'll be a different game and one we'll look forward to.”

Lindsay was Rovers’ tenth of thirteen summer signings, moving from Rotherham United after making 161 appearances in all competitions for the Millers across five years.

The 28-year-old has been pleased with his time at the Pirates and is aiming to play an important role in the team in the coming weeks.

“I’ve really enjoyed it; it’s been really good,” said Lindsay. “I started a bit later than everyone else, but pre-season went quite smoothly. I managed to get minutes pretty quick. I feel better within myself. Hopefully, in the next few weeks, I can get more minutes, get up to speed and play a big part.”
