There might not be a more popular goal scorer all season than Fabrizio Cavegn, who netted his first goal in Sky Bet League Two for Bristol Rovers in their 2-1 victory over Barrow on Saturday.
The Swiss striker, who joined the Gas from FC Vaduz in the summer transfer window, had already netted twice for the Pirates against Tottenham Hotspur U21s in the Vertu Trophy. However, this time, the attacker got to experience a packed crowd at The Memorial Stadium getting out of their seats in celebration.
With Darrell Clarke's men already leading 1-0 thanks to Josh McEachran's early opener, Cavegn got the second goal from close range, reacting quickly to Promise Omochere's header into the heart of the box to convert with a first-time finish.
Reflecting on his first league goal, Cavegn could not hide his delight and was only thinking about scoring when the ball dropped to his feet.

“I cannot describe it,” he smiled. “It was so nice to celebrate in front of the fans. It was my goal to score goals here. I needed this and I am very happy.
“I saw the ball come to me, and when I’m in that space I only want to shoot and to score a goal. I see the ball come to me, and I said, “I want to score it.”
Omochere and Cavegn led the attack for Rovers for most of the fixture and were difficult for Barrow's defence to handle. Omochere would regularly drift into wide positions and used his physicality to hold onto possession and bring others into play. As for Cavegn, he used his pace to make runs behind the defence, whilst often attempting to latch onto flicks from his striker partner, ultimately leading to his goal.
After making a handful of starts for the Gas alongside Omochere, Cavegn feels he is starting to build a connection with the Irishman, with their bond growing stronger with every match.
“We see with every game that it becomes better,” said Cavegn. “The goal is to play to Promise, and Promise can play the ball behind the last line to me. We can see we have to improve it, but we can see with every game it becomes better.”
After playing for 68 minutes, Cavegn was replaced by Ellis Harrison and watched from the bench as Rovers held onto their one-goal lead for over 20 minutes to claim their fourth successive victory in Sky Bet League Two.
The Gas would have liked to have won by a bigger margin, especially after having the better chances across the contest, but a fourth win by one goal shows the Pirates have what it takes to be victorious by any means necessary. Cavegn was proud of his side and their fighting spirit to defend their advantage.

“I feel very happy to have scored the goal and that we won,” said the striker. “The last few minutes, we had to defend, and I was on the bench hoping we would win it. I’m really proud of the team.
“It was a very good [first] half, but we have to try to start the second half like the first one and keep the intensity. We have time to work on it.
“I know inside of me that we are ready to win, we are ready to fight, and we can win these games.”
After a slow start to the 2025/26 campaign, the Gas have momentum after stretching their unbeaten run in all competitions to six games. After four straight wins in the fourth tier, the Pirates now have plenty of confidence.
“Of course, if you can win, it gives you the confidence,” he said. “It gives you a good night, a good feeling, and this is what we footballers need to improve and to get better.”
