Isaac Hutchinson stated it was nice to get his first Sky Bet League One for Bristol Rovers against Huddersfield Town in front of the travelling supporters on Saturday.
The midfielder signed from Walsall in the summer and curled his effort past Jacob Chapman to open his account for the season in the third tier, having already scored for Rovers in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
His goal was ultimately a consolation after the Terriers had already rushed into a three-goal lead courtesy of strikes from Matty Pearson, Callum Marshall and Bojan Radulovic, with the hosts coming away with a 3-1 victory.
Hutchison had previously been named on the bench for three successive league matches without coming on, so he insisted that he was pleased to get on the pitch and make an impact.
“I’ve been desperate to get on the pitch,” he said. “I think I’ve been on the bench a few times without coming on. When you come on, you try to impact the game in any way you can, and thankfully, I got a goal, which was nice for me to have that weight off my shoulders.
“It’s nice to do it up the end with the fans as well. It didn’t get us a result, but little things mean something.”
The Gas had started October brightly with back-to-back league triumphs, beating Charlton Athletic at The Memorial Stadium before collecting their first away win of the campaign against Burton Albion.
Huddersfield's win over the Pirates was their second successive league triumph, pushing them into the top six in the table, with Hutchinson knowing it was going to be a difficult fixture.
“It was always going to be a tough game against a team that’s just come down from the Championship,” he said. “They’ve got quite a lot of good players and probably on the day for whatever reason we were unable to get up to the speed of the match and have the right qualities to get a result.
“Everyone in there is frustrated with how it’s gone.”
Rovers are back in action on Tuesday at The Memorial Stadium against Shrewsbury Town, with the Salops in the relegation zone after collecting eight points from their opening 12 matches.
Hutchinson sees the fixture against the Shrews as a chance to return to winning ways and backs his side to get a positive result.
“It's a winnable game,” said the midfielder. “Especially when the fixtures go Saturday, Tuesday and Saturday. You can’t get too down with a result because you’ve got two more games. If you come out of them with six points or especially on Tuesday with three points, which puts us in the right direction again.
“We need to be confident and back ourselves. We think we are a good team when we do what we’re good at. Today is done now. We’ll go into Tuesday with a fresh mindset and can hopefully get a result.”
