The Pirates were looking to make it four wins in five in the fourth tier, but were up against a Ravens outfit who started the day on an 18-game unbeaten streak in the league and unbeaten at home.
Ellis got behind Bromley's defence in the first two minutes, but passed when it could have been better to shoot, with the defence clearing the danger. Instead, the hosts gained the lead through Will Hondermarck, who beat Brad Young from a tight angle.
The Pirates made three changes at the break to try and get back into the contest, with Joe Quigley, Shaq Forde and Yusuf Akhamrich introduced. Quigley had the Gas' best chance, blasting over a volley before Forde was sent off in the closing stages after receiving a second yellow card.
