Highlights | Bristol Rovers 2-2 Cambridge United (Rovers win 4-2 on penalties)

Highlights v Cambridge United vertu trophy

Bristol Rovers survived a Cambridge United fightback to secure progression to the Vertu Trophy Round Of 16.

The Gas stormed into the lead at The Memorial Stadium thanks to Ellis Harrison's early penalty, with the striker netting again in the first-half following Luke Thomas' cut-back pass.

Cambridge got themselves back into the game when Kelland Watts' scrappy finish on 68 minutes found the net, before Sullay Kaikai's late penalty sent the game to a shoot-out.

It was, in truth, exactly what Neil Harris' side deserved for their efforts in BS7, but the Pirates still claimed victory in the resulting spot-kicks. Fabrizio Cavegn, Jack Sparkes, Luke Thomas and Kamil Conteh all netted from 12 yards while Luke Southwood's heroics kept out the visitors, sending Rovers into the last 16.
