The Ammies came into the contest in second place after winning their previous three fixtures in the fourth tier, gaining the lead through Matt Butcher's fine strike into the top corner, but could not hold onto their lead, with Ellis Harrison levelling just before half-time for the Gas.

After a slow start to the contest, Darrell Clarke's men gained all the momentum and showed their strength in the second half. Pressurising Salford's defence, Rovers turned the score in their favour through Fabrizio Cavegn, who made the most of a mistake in the defence to slip through one-on-one with Matthew Young before sliding the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper and into the net.

Salford had a chance to level it late in stoppage time after Luke Thomas was adjudged to have fouled Jorge Grant in the box. However, Luke Southwood stood up to the challenge and produced late heroics, pushing away Luke Garrett's penalty to help Rovers to their fifth win in six outings.
