Fabrizio Cavegn | Goals give me more confidence

Fabizio Cavegn

Fabrizio Cavegn is a forward in form for Bristol Rovers and scored the winning goal for the Gas in their 2-1 win over Salford City in Sky Bet League Two.

The striker netted for the third successive game in the fourth tier with a composed finish past Matthew Young, slotting his effort through the goalkeeper's legs to put the Pirates ahead.

Rovers had fallen behind through Matt Butcher's cultured finish for the Ammies, but the hosts scored either side of half-time to claim all three points. Ellis Harrison got the Gas level just before the break, with Cavegn turning the score in Rovers' favour after the restart.

Reflecting on his winning strike, Cavegn was delighted to score the winner and analysed his goal.

"It was a very, very good game, and for me, I scored again, three games and three goals," he said. "I am very happy, and it gives me more confidence, bouncing up to the team and team mates, it gives everyone more confidence, and we can say we have reached the top seven now, and we keep going.

"It was so fast. I saw the goalkeeper and the goal to score. I touched the ball, and the ball was in the goal, and I was happy. Everyone came to me to celebrate the goal, and the goal - it just came from nowhere.

"As a striker, you have to be ready. In 90 minutes, the ball can be anywhere, and everyone comes into the box; you have to be ready. With only one touch, you have to shoot and score, yeah, very cool."

With Promise Omochere out through injury, Cavegn started alongside Harrison in the attack to great effect. Both strikers were on the scoresheet, with Harrison bringing a physical presence in the attack and Cavegn adding the speed in behind the Salford defence.

It was a very, very good game, and for me, I scored again, three games and three goals.

"Everyone can see that it is a good combination" said the striker. "He is the stronger man, and he can hit the ball with his head and be behind the last lines, and then, there I am, and it is my goal to reach the last line, and there we have a good combination."

Heading into the final moments, Salford had the opportunity to level in the final moments through Luke Garbutt's stoppage-time spot-kick, but Luke Southwood came up with an impressive save to deny his effort and give the Gas all three points.

Cavegn was watching from the bench and congratulated Southwood for his penalty save before emphasising the importance of Rovers' home form, with the Gas winning for the third time on the bounce at The Mem.

"Yes, I was on the bench at this time, I was saying to myself, 'please, please Luke save the penalty,' and then he did it, and congratulations to Luke, he helped us," said Cavegn.

"It is so great to play at The Mem with the fans, it is so nice to play. We need the fans, we need the wins, and with the fans here in The Mem, we can keep going.

"Every club wants to win, and we can reach it, we can see we can reach it, and then it gives us as team players, and as the club more confidence. It is a good feeling."
