After ending their four-game losing streak to start the 2025/26 season with a 0-0 draw against Oldham Athletic, the Pirates were looking to build on their dominant performance and claim a victory against a U's side that had beaten them at The Mem in the Carabao Cup earlier in August.
The Gas controlled the first half and gained the lead through Ellis Harrison, who latched onto Alfie Kilgour's flicked header and finished a first-time effort clinically past Jake Eastwood to score in 50th goal for the Pirates.
Despite an early chance for Promise Omochere in the second half, Cambridge looked brighter after the break, but could not seriously trouble Luke Southwood, with Darrell Clarke's men defending strongly to earn a clean sheet and all three points.
