We are all saddened to learn of the sudden passing of our former goalkeeper Kevin Miller, on 15th September, at the age of 57.
The Falmouth born shot stopper enjoyed a long and distinguished Football League career with Exeter City (two spells), Birmingham City, Watford, Crystal Palace, Barnsley, Derby County, Southampton and Torquay United.
He joined Rovers, from Exeter, in July 2003 and went on to appear in 72 league games whilst at The Mem and was club captain in 2004/05. During his time with Rovers, he made the 600th league appearance of his career, in a 2-2 draw against Yeovil Town in October 2004.
He continued his career in non league football after leaving Torquay, turning out in more than 100 games for Bodmin Town. He was also goalkeeping coach at Plymouth Argyle and at Torquay, managed St Martins, was joint manager of Exmouth Town, then manager of Okehampton Town before becoming Exeter’s goalkeeping coach in December 2022, a position he relinquished in June of this year.
More recently, he was goalkeeping coach at Wigan Athletic, where he teamed up again with his former Exeter boss Gary Caldwell.
Kevin won a Fourth Division Championship medal with Exeter and was their Player of the Year in 1989/90 and also scored the winning goal in an FA Cup Tie against Colchester United in November 1991.
He played in the Premiership with Crystal Palace and appeared at Wembley, in a Play Off Final for Barnsley in May 2000.
A reliable and consistent performer between the posts, Kevin was a larger than life character, a huge personality in the dressing room, was a really good goalkeeper and extremely popular with teammates at every club he played for.
He will be missed by many and for those of us who hadn’t seen him for a while; his death comes as a complete shock and at this incredibly sad time we send our condolences to his family and his many friends.
