Bristol Rovers will highlight the importance of prostate cancer awareness as part of The John Green Campaign at our Sky Bet League Two fixture against Accrington Stanley.
The Club, in collaboration with Bristol Rovers Community Trust, North Bristol NHS Trust, part of Bristol NHS Group, and Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire (SWAG) Cancer Alliance launched the John Green Campaign raise awareness of prostate cancer risk, increase knowledge among male supporters and their families, encourage early detection and connect our community to local resources.
The campaign is named in honour of lifelong Bristol Rovers supporter John Green, who was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer in early 2024. Since his diagnosis, John has sought to raise the understanding of the risks and symptoms associated with prostate cancer and has worked tirelessly with clubs across the country to encourage honest, transparent conversations.
The month-long initiative will conclude on Saturday 28 March 2026 as Bristol Rovers dedicate the matchday to John Green and prostate cancer awareness.
The North Bristol NHS Trust will be at The Memorial Stadium ahead of kick-off, providing health checks and guidance to supporters.
The Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire (SWAG) Cancer Alliance will once again also be set up in the Fanzone, sharing information and data with fans about early detection of prostate cancer.
The Bristol Rovers men’s first-team squad will also show their support for the initiative by wearing John Green Campaign t-shirts for their warm-ups before the game.
Ahead of kick-off, John himself will be pitchside alongside representatives from the Club, the Community Trust, the North Bristol NHS Trust and SWAG Cancer Alliance to reflect on the campaign before leading all at The Memorial Stadium in a pre-match minute’s noise!
Prostate cancer is commonly referred to as ‘the silent killer’ due to a lack of notable symptoms during the early, treatable stages. By collectively engaging in a minute of applause, cheering and noise, all in attendance for Saturday’s game will jointly show a commitment to driving earlier detection and keeping the conversation about prostate cancer active, prevalent and ongoing.
Bristol Rovers Season Ticket Holders can bring a friend for free to Saturday’s fixture, which the Club hope helps to encourage checking in on those closed to us and having honest conversations about our wellbeing – including prostate cancer.
