Brad Young admitted Bristol Rovers were not good enough against Accrington Stanley and stressed the importance of everyone sticking together to get through the tough run of form.
The Gas were looking to build on two wins in three fixtures across all competitions to start November but fell to their sixth straight defeat in Sky Bet League Two against Stanley on Saturday.
The Pirates had all of the momentum when Kamil Conteh levelled the score in the second half, but efforts from Farrend Rawson and Isaac Sinclair helped the hosts to a 3-1 victory.
Speaking to the media, Young was frustrated with the defeat and suggested moments in the game proved costly.
"It’s a disappointing result," he said. "We weren't good enough at all. We need to look at ourselves long and hard in the mirror and figure out what’s happening because all week we work and we work well, and it comes to the moments in the game and we’re not with it, and it’s costing us big time."
Rovers had most of the possession and had chances to score before Conteh's equaliser, with Shaq Forde curling a first-time shot over and Alfie Chang seeing a deflected drive cleared off the line.
However, the Pirates could not make the most of their opportunities, with Stanley showing a clinical edge to claim all three points. Young felt his side could have done better in both boxes, with mistakes leading to Accrington's decisive goals.
"Ultimately, it’s the moments in both boxes that count," said Young. "We weren't good enough in ours. You can control the ball all you like, have all of the possession you want, but it’s the boxes where the goals are scored, and we haven’t defended ours well enough today."
The Gas have been on a difficult run already this season and lost their opening four league fixtures. Nevertheless, a goalless draw against Oldham Athletic was the start of an eight-game unbeaten run across all competitions before going on another disappointing streak of results.
Young stressed the importance of everyone sticking together and is sure the results will turn in the Pirates' favour.
"We’re in this together," said the goalkeeper. "We need to get back to the drawing board, work hard this week, and go again.
"We’ve got a good group in there, and the message I would give is just stick with us; it will come good. We just need to keep working hard, stick together, and we’ll hopefully start putting points on the board."
