An amazing 1,633 fans turned out at The Memorial Stadium in full support and celebration of Bristol Rovers Women’s incredible 2023/24 season.
The Gas Girls, winners of the South West Women's Regional League (Premier Division), played their final home match of the campaign at The Mem on Sunday afternoon, claiming a fantastic 3-0 win over Liskeard Athletic.
Cheered on by the incredible 1,633 support, Nathan Hallett-Young’s side showed the ability, tenacity and flair that secured the league title and promotion to step four of the women’s football pyramid.
Rianne Bourne-Hallett opened the scoring in the first half with a simply sensational strike, finding the back of the net with a tremendous half-volleyed finish from distance.
Bourne-Hallett would do it again in the second half, finding the corner with a fantastic lob from the edge of the area to double the Gas Girls’ advantage.
Charlie Rowlands wrapped up the scoring late on, turning home an excellent header for Rovers.
Prior to kick-off, fans in attendance were treated to live music in the Fan Zone, face-painting, and other fun activities. Her Game Too sold specially-written programmes, while Operation Christmas Hamper ran a Charity Wax and Club Partner Utilita promoted the Football Rebooted campaign.
A superb day at The Mem concluded with the presentation of the league championship trophy, lifted by captain Libby Bell, in front of the celebrating Gasheads.
“It’s always daunting when you play in front of a big crowd but the girls have taken on the challenge and got the result,” first-team manager Hallett-Young said. “They played the game, not the occasion, and now we can celebrate the occasion too.
“It’s been brilliant. We’re celebrating with our fans, our supporters, our families and our sponsors. We’ve come together as one Club and that’s the best thing about it. The fact we’ve come here to The Mem, got three points, and it’s been a brilliant day.”
