16/9/23 Shrewsbury MR

Rovers get their second win of the season and first clean sheet as they win 2-0 at Shrewsbury.

Joey Barton made three changes from the team that started against Lincoln as Marquis, Taylor and Evans made their way back into the starting XI.

The opening minutes were quiet, with the most interesting action coming from an early substitution for Rovers as George Friend picked up an injury and made way for Josh Grant.

A chance for Rovers came as Marquis and Collins were played through accidentally by a Shrewsbury defender, but a miscommunication between the two led to Marosi collecting the ball uncontested.

Not long after, a good opportunity for Rovers arrived as Luke Thomas and Collins combined on the edge of the box, but Collins' shot was blocked and cleared away.

The first half remained tense with neither side formulating clear chances nonetheless, Jack Hunt denied Shrewsbury from getting the opener with two diving blocks just minutes apart to keep the scores level at the break.

Marquis had the first chance of the second half as he got played through and cut inside only to be tackled and the ball went behind for a Rovers corner.

Around the 67th minute, Rovers made their first changes as Luke McCormick and Jevani Brown came on for Luke Thomas and Ryan Woods.

Jevani Brown made an instant impact as he played Aaron Collins through with a sensational curled pass down the right for the Welshman to drill a cross into the front post, which John Marquis neatly tucked home for the opener.

Not long after the goal, Anthony Evans came off for Sam Finley.

The game was put to bed when Rovers played a short corner before whipping in a cross to Connor Taylor at the back post, who headed the ball towards the bottom corner but Aaron Collins made sure it hit the net by poking it home from close range.
