Match Report | Carlisle 0-1 Rovers

11 November 2023

A tough battle up north results in Rovers walking away with all three points, thanks to an own goal from Sam Lavelle.

Andy Mangan made five changes from the team that started against Reading earlier in the week, most notably Jack Hunt returning to the starting XI.

The first chance of the game fell to Rovers when Aaron Collins ran in behind the Carlisle defence but his shot could only find the outside of the net.

Collins was played through again this time by Chris Martin, the Welshman cut inside but his shot was collected by Holy.

A good opportunity came for Rovers when the ball fell kindly to Harvey Vale in the box however, his shot was blazed over the bar.

Rovers finally got the breakthrough goal in the 38th minute when Chris Martin played a sensational ball to Aaron Collins on the right who passed to an overlapping Jack Hunt who then drilled the ball across goal and into the back of the net. The fullback celebrated the goal but it was later given as a Sam Lavelle own goal.

George Friend picked up a yellow card after pulling the shirt of Gibson to bring an end to the half.

Early into the second half Aaron Collins went to ground in the box as Rovers appealed for a penalty but the referee didn't agree and gave Collins a yellow card for simulation.

Rovers were down to 10 when Tristan Crama pulled back Ablade to receive a straight red card for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Goalkeeper Matt Cox was repeatedly called into action to keep Rovers in the lead.

The hosts tried their best to break down Rovers' defence but to no success and when the full-time whistle was blown the visitors went home with all three points.
