Bristol Rovers Women's are just one point away from securing the South West Women's Football League at the first attempt.
An emphatic 6-0 victory at home to Cheltenham Town Development last Sunday, put the 'Gas Girls' within touching distance of mathematically clinching a second league title in a row. Weston Mendip Ladies will be making the journey to North Bristol on Sunday, in a bid to halt proceedings at Lockleaze Sports Centre and gain further advantage from their local rivals at the bottom of the table, Weston-Super-Mare Ladies.
Re-launched in 2019, the 'Gas Girls' recorded a 100% record in the Gloucestershire County Women's League (Tier 7 of the English Women's Football Pyramid) before the season was declared null & void due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The following the season saw Rovers clinch their first league title and promotion to the South West Regional League for 2021/22.
The 'Gas Girls' have enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Northern Division of the SWWFL, recording twelve wins in fourteen games and scoring a superb 67 goals, with the help of Zoe Fielden-Stewart, Annys Turner and Laura Curnock.
First-Team Manager, Nathan Hallett-Young, said "The girls have been superb and we'll be going into Sunday's game with the same mentality as we've carried throughout the season. We've been so impressed with their attitude and determination to succeed, especially considering that they're amateur players and have many other commitments. They're so proud to represent Bristol Rovers and they certainly deserve the support from the Gas Family"
