02.12.22 Match Report - Bolton 1-1 Rovers

Rovers take a point home from the University of Bolton Stadium.

Josh Coburn's rapid strike at the start of the game was not enough for Rovers to take all three points back to BS7 after Dion Charles' late equaliser.

Joey Barton has made three changes to the side that started in last Sunday's Emirates FA Cup defeat to Boreham Wood. In comes Sam Finely, Jordan Rossiter and Trevor Clarke who replace Lewis Gordon, Glenn Whelan and Ryan Loft.

Rovers started the game in superb fashion. Straight from kick-off, Antony Evans received the ball on the right-hand side. The midfielder took a touch and sent a low cross into the Bolton penalty area where Josh Coburn was lying in wait to bundle the ball home.

It was inches away from Rovers being two to the good only moments later. Trevor Clarke arrived at the back post to meet Aaron Collins' cross but Bolton were able to scramble the ball behind for a corner kick. Dapo Afolayan came close for the hosts when his zipping effort from 25 yards out flew over Belshaw's bar and behind.

That Afolayan chance turned out to be Bolton's best effort of the half as the two sides exited the pitch for the interval with the Gas one to the good. James Gibbons replaced Trevor Clarke in the 68th minute as Joey Barton looked to freshen things up for the final 22 minutes.

Jordan Rossiter did well to prevent a Bolten chance with a sliding intervention on a dangerous ball that was whipped in to the Rovers penalty area as the hosts looked to get back in the game.

A rare James Connolly error presented Bolton with a golden chance to level the scores. Dion Charles raced through one-on-one with Belshaw and the Rovers 'keeper came out on top, denying the striker with a brilliant stop from close range.

The hosts did find the leveller in the final minutes of the game. Dion Charles picked up the ball following a set piece and whipped the ball into the top corner of the net past a helpless Belshaw.

There were to be no late dramatics as Rovers would take a point back to BS7.
