Bristol Rovers winger Yusuf Akhamrich has been voted the Christophe Duchamp Player of the Month for February!
The 20-year-old winger, who signed for the Pirates on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the January Transfer Window, has been voted by the supporters as the men’s first team’s star performer for his performance last month.
The Spurs loanee received 45 per cent of the vote, beating goalkeeper Brad Young (35 per cent), as well as Kofi Balmer (17 per cent) and Joe Quigley (four per cent).
Akhamrich had an outstanding February, starting the month off with a composed left-footed finish against Walsall to secure a comfortable 2-0 win. He then went on to provide an early assist for Joe Quigley and a low finish of his own in a superb 3-1 victory against Grimsby Town.
Akhamrich was presented with a Christophe Duchamp watch at The Quarters Training Facility in recognition of his success and was thrilled, saying that he tries to score as many goals as possible and hopes to win the award again soon.
“It’s amazing,” he told BRTV. “I mean, since I’ve been here, the support that they [the Gasheads] have shown me has been crazy, so for them to be voting for me, I’m very happy with that. I appreciate them a lot for that.
“To be honest, I’m surprised at how well it’s going. Obviously, I’m working hard, so I’m giving myself the best opportunity I can to perform, week in, week out and obviously the help of the players and also the fans. It’s made it a smooth ride so far.
“I’m just trying to get as many games as I can, and obviously, if I’m playing, I’ll have more of a chance of scoring, assisting and playing well. So, for me, the main thing is just getting as many games as I can from now until the end of the season.”
