Tommy Leigh | We're pumped up and want another three points!

Tommy Leigh preview

Tommy Leigh says Bristol Rovers remain hungry as ever to win football matches and pick up points ahead of this weekend's trip to Tranmere Rovers.

The EFL's in-form side in the Gas take on a Tranmere team who have struggled for points in 2026, but midfielder Leigh knows the Pirates will need to bring their best at Prenton Park to secure a seventh successive league win for the first time since the 1952/53 season...

I think football’s a sport where when it’s going badly, it can be really pretty grim, but it can’t get too much better than the last three, four, five weeks?

“It’s been very good, obviously winning six games in a row is very good for this club. We’ve gone out there and we’ve worked very hard, done it through training and obviously delivering on Saturdays.

“We’ve just got to keep going really even though there is only a couple of games left but we’ve got to keep fighting and hopefully we can win every game.”

You’ve only been here for a relatively short amount of time, in that time can you see how things have changed?

“Yeah. I was concentrating on Bradford before but obviously now coming here things have changed, obviously it’s different players in and out and we’re a really good group and it’s working so hopefully we can stick to it till the end of the season.”

It’s a massive game for us and a massive game for them too. And we want to walk away with the three points so it’s going to be a tough game.

With so many of you having arrived in January it can take a little bit of time to find your feet, but it just hasn’t happened with pretty much all the guys who came in.

“We’ve worked on things in training and we’ve took that out onto the Saturdays and obviously it’s hard to get to know everyone and what they do on the pitch, but it just clicked and it worked so just keep on doing it.”

Every club is looking for the kind of run that you guys are on and if you can do it you’d be a rich person. Is it that it’s about getting a lot of good players together at the right place at the right time?

“Steve Evans has done amazing with who we have brought in and it’s paid off. But yeah, you get a good group of lads, and I think they all want to work for each other and it’s going to happen on Saturday, everyone wants to run about, everyone wants to win games and that’s what we’ll look to do.”

It seems like there is a real buzz around the place, certainly amongst the fans. I’m guessing it’s the same in the dressing room?

“We’re coming in with a smile on your face after three points. Obviously, the fans are there away and home and they’ve been outstanding, you can hear them all through the game. Hopefully they can keep on coming and it puts a smile on our face when we turn up and we walk out and see all the fans there.”

In terms of finishing off this season properly, as you’re six unbeaten it would be great to keep it going till the end of the campaign...

“We want to keep on winning but it doesn’t happen like that so we need to keep on training really hard, working hard and hopefully we can win every game because for the other teams they’re going to want to be winning, especially the game coming up Saturday.

“It’s a massive game for us and a massive game for them too. And we want to walk away with the three points so it’s going to be a tough game.”

The last few teams you’ve played have been down there and another one this weekend with Tranmere and I guess you know you’re going to get that sort of desperation from their side of things…

“We were in the same boat, we were down there obviously now up in mid-table now, but we were fighting for our lives and it’s the same every game really. You want to win, you don’t want to walk off the pitch after losing, it’s a horrible feeling.

“And I know Steve Evans will be the same, he’s going to be pumped up for the game as much as the players, so it doesn’t matter who we come up against, we want to go for three points and that’s all that matters.”
