Bristol Rovers Academy

A spirited Bristol Rovers U18s lost 3-1 to Wycombe Wanderers in the first round of the FA Youth Cup at Adams Park.

Darrell Clarke, Ricky Martin and the first-team coaching staff were in attendance to watch an entertaining clash, with the Gas going close to gaining the lead in the first half when Ollie Dewsbury knocked a header just over the bar.

The hosts made the most of the missed opportunity with a stunning opener through Cam Stones, who spotted Will Wilson off his line and chipped the goalkeeper from 40 yards.

The Pirates displayed great character after going behind and got level after half-time through Dewsbury, with the forward latching onto a free-kick to head the Gas back level.

However, the Blues scored two further goals to secure their place in the next round. Stones got on the end of a cutback from Nsemi Bassega to convert from close range before Luca Hughes got a late third.

Rovers almost got one back in the closing stages after Will Turner excellently brought the ball down on the right, getting away from a defender to race one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his shot was saved.
