The Pirates finished top of the Southern Group B after collecting eight points from three fixtures. The Gas started the competition with a thrilling contest against Tottenham Hotspur U21s, coming from 3-0 down to level the score at 4-4 before winning on penalties.
Rovers then beat local rivals Cheltenham Town on the road before securing first position in the group with a last-minute victory over Plymouth Argyle at The Memorial Stadium.
The victory secured a home draw, with Cambridge visiting The Mem for the third time this season. Neil Harris' men won the first battle in the Carabao Cup before Rovers got the better of the U's in the league. Both teams will be eager to win the third clash and secure a place in the next round of the competition.
