Wycombe Wanderers 4-1 Bristol Rovers
Jersey Mike's Trophy, Adams Park, Tuesday 6 October 2026, 7pm KO

Bristol Rovers lost 4-1 to Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park in the Jersey Mike's Trophy.

The Chairboys got off to a flying start and took a three-goal lead heading into half-time. Malik Mothersille broke the deadlock with a low finish through Charlie Binns' legs before Emre Tezgel doubled the hosts' advantage from close range.

Cauley Woodrow assisted the first two goals, then bagged Wycombe's third with a fine finish into the bottom right corner. The Gas made two half-time changes and looked much improved.

Reiss Russell-Denny chipped the ball forward to Ellis Harrison, who drove a clinical effort before Joe Wildsmith pushed over a clever header from the striker. Rovers went searching for a second before Wycombe netted the fourth and final goal, with Tezgel getting his brace with a simple finish.

The Chairboys started quickly, breaking the deadlock with the opening chance. Aron Morley collected a loose ball in the middle of Rovers' half and found Woodrow, who played a clever throughball down the left side of the box to Mothersille. He took a good touch before finishing low through Binns' legs.

Wycombe then went close moments later. Tezgel forced a strong save from Binns before Ben Purrington headed a dangerous cross away, with an attacker coming in right behind him looking to score.

Tezgel looked threatening for the hosts, with all of Wycombe's attacks coming down his side. He saw a cutback cleared and a close-range strike blocked by Jack Sparkes before he got his goal. Woodrow rushed down the right and played a low cross into the Stoke City loanee, who finished next to the goal.

Former Pirates defender Connor Taylor then looked to score. His header was blocked before Mothersille looked for his brace, but Purrington got across in time to stop it.

Experienced striker Woodrow then added a goal to his two assists. The forward latched onto a deflected pass forward and finished clinically into the bottom right corner. Three was almost four moments later, with Macauley Southam-Hales blocking Mothersille's goal-bound attempt.

The Pirates made two changes at half-time, looking to turn the momentum, with Ellis Harrison and Shaq Forde adding fresh energy to the attack. New signing Appiah played the ball across the box to Ellis Harrison, but Joe Wildsmith saved his one-on-one effort.

Reiss Russell-Denny was also introduced in the second half and went close six minutes after coming on, shooting wide of the left post with a first-time strike. The Tottenham Hotspur loanee looked to get on the ball at every opportunity and played a vital role in Rovers' goal. The 20-year-old raced forward with possession and chipped a pass to Harrison, who finished clinically past Wildsmith.

Harrison then came close to scoring again. The striker got on the end of a cross from the right before seeing his flicked header pushed over brilliantly by Wildsmith.

The Gas were getting back into the game and looked for a second before Wycombe got a fourth against the run of play. Grimmer raced down the right and blasted a shot towards goal that deflected into the path of Tezgel for an easy finish to secure all three points.
