Rest In peace Roger Cooper

Roger Cooper - RIP

All at Bristol Rovers were shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Roger Cooper, who passed away on Saturday 14 July 2025.

Roger was one of those people who always worked diligently and thoroughly in whatever capacity he could to assist Bristol Rovers, the club he loved and supported.

It was as a Supporters Club Committee member that he assisted with the planning and implementation of the Supporters Club Share Scheme, which was launched back in the Autumn of 2002.

It was a scheme he was passionate about and, writing on the first anniversary of its launch, he said; ‘We believe that the Share Scheme can change the fortunes of Bristol Rovers but we have to have enough people to be prepared to put in the time and effort; enough money to provide the foundations for generating a much higher income and a vision for the future that will provide the belief that, together, we can succeed.’

His attention to detail was faultless, just ask any Supporters Club committee member from that time how thorough his reports were; and he always ensured that they were debated at length.

Once his time on the committee was over, he continued to support the club, though he did have other interests, especially the Mike Proctor Foundation and he was an enthusiastic supporter of the former Gloucestershire and South African cricketer and the Foundation he set up to enhance the lives of the children who attended Ottawa Primary School in a settlement close to Durban.

Only recently he was in contact with the club regarding the funeral arrangements of one of his former Supporters Club colleagues, John Malyckyj, wanting to make sure that the club recognised John’s contributions down the years.

He had already purchased his seat in the President’s Club area for next season and was, no doubt, looking forward to seeing Rovers in action again come August.

His loss will be felt by all who knew him, and we think of his immediate family and close friends at this very sad time.
