Sky Bet League One, Edgeley Park, Saturday 24 August 2024, 12:30pm

Bristol Rovers will look to continue their strong start to the Sky Bet League One season when they travel to Stockport County on Saturday.

The Pirates will now switch their attention to the league, where they beat Northampton Town 1-0 on the opening day before a 0-0 draw on the road to Rotherham United.

Stockport County are at the top of the table after winning both matches, beating Blackpool 3-0 in their most recent outing.

Opposition...

Stockport were promoted from the National League into Sky Bet League Two in the 2021/22 season as league winners, finishing in fourth position in their first campaign in the fourth tier before winning the division the year after.

The hosts are in League One for the first time in fourteen years and have made a brilliant start, beating Cambridge United 2-0 on the opening day before thrashing Blackpool 3-0 on the road to end the day at the summit of the table.

The Hatters have been active in the transfer market and brought back Louie Barry on loan from Aston Villa, with the forward netting nine goals in twenty games last season.

Other notable additions include Lewis Bate from Leeds United, Jack Diamond from Sunderland and Callum Connolly Blackpool, all on a free transfer. Stockport also added midfielder Lewis Fiorini from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.

Bristol Rovers have a good record against Stockport and have won their last three matches against the Hatters. However, the previous meeting between the two sides was in March 2010, with the Gas edging a narrow victory.

Rovers won 1-0 after a goal from Jeff Hughes in their last League One meeting, also triumphing 2-0 in the reverse fixture at Edgeley Park.
