Keynsham Town Preview H 26/27

Bristol Rovers vs Keynsham Town | FA Women’s National League, Oaklands Park Stadium, Sunday 18th October, 14:00 KO

Bristol Rovers Women will look to make it four wins in as many league games this weekend when they host strugglers Keynsham Town for the second time this season.

Last weekend saw Nathan Hallett-Young’s side record their first clean sheet of the campaign as they saw off Abingdon United 2-0 in Oxfordshire, thanks to goals from inform duo Ellie Preece and Libby Davies.

The Gas Girls moved up to fourth in the process, and now have four victories in five across all competitions, finding success against Wycombe Wanderers, Moneyfields, Corsham Town, and Abingdon.

Having already come out 4-2 winners against Keynsham in the FAWNL Cup, Rovers will be aiming for a win in the league this time to keep their good run going.

Opposition…

Keynsham are one of the teams currently battling the drop in the South-West division, occupying 10th spot, sitting alongside Marine Academy Plymouth on just four points from six games.

Despite that, the K’s find themselves in a reasonable run of form, unbeaten in four in all competitions with two wins and two draws.

Kicking off that set was a 4-0 home thrashing of bottom side Ascot United. Sach Kaneko-Grun got the scoring underway after just three minutes, going on to add another before the break as captain Mia Mugford and Freya Mist also found the back of the net.

Next up were Exeter City in the league cup, with the sides playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw. The Grecians were the ones to take an early lead this time, though Kaneko-Grun and Mugford actually put Keynsham ahead, before an Exeter leveller ensured it was all square at the break.

Abi Todd then put the hosts into the lead within eight minutes of the restart, but the spoils would ultimately be shared as Exeter found another goal to pull level once again, leaving the K’s bottom and behind Rovers in Group B.

Despite not progressing in the FAWNL Cup, Keynsham made it through to the first round proper of the FA Cup with a confident 2-1 home win against Torquay United, rounding off a spell of three successive home games.

Most recently, the K’s returned to the road to face Gwalia United, and kept the run going by rescuing a point in a 2-2 draw. Gwalia looked like they were set to end the unbeaten run, two to the good, but second-half goals from Todd and Mugford meant another valuable point for the visitors.

Keynsham now face Rovers in the league and Winchester City Flyers in the FA Cup – both on their travels – and will equally be seeking to continue their prosperous form.

Last Season…

The most recent meeting between these two teams was of course this season’s cup meeting on August 26. Rovers came out on top of that one, running out 4-2 victors courtesy of Bella Tweddle’s first-half brace as well as Gipsy Viveash’s penalty and Lashai McNama’s late goal, giving the Gas the best start in the competition.

As for the 2025/26 league campaign, Keynsham finished ninth, 21 points behind Rovers. They did, however, have the first laugh as the K’s won 3-1 at home in late November, with Georgia Galley, Todd, and Alaiya Beale scoring either side of Maisy Collis’ leveller.

But it was Rovers who triumphed in the return fixture, capping off the season with a 2-0 home victory. Chloe Snook was twice on the scoresheet, with the Gas two up within 28 minutes and going on to win by that scoreline.
