Bridgwater United Cup Preview

Bristol Rovers v Bridgwater United
FA Women's National League Cup, Yate Town FC, Wednesday 17th September, 19:45pm.

Coming off the back of an incredible 9-0 win against Worthing on Sunday, Rovers head into a busy match-week.

Rovers had double cause for celebration at the weekend as not only did they secure such a dominant victory, but they also kept their fifth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.

This remarkable run makes them the only team in the division yet to concede a goal, and with Burnley FC Women conceding at the weekend, the Gas Girls now stand as the only side across the entire FAWNL to have not let a goal in.

Opposition...

For their opponents, Bridgwater United, it's been a mixed start to the league campaign with one win, one defeat, and two draws, placing them fourth in the league table with 5 points and 6 goals.

On Sunday, they were denied victory late on in a 1-1 draw. The Robins went ahead in the 71st minute with a strike from Stephanie Beck, but an 84th-minute equaliser from Maidenhead left them with little time to restore their lead. In the FAWNL Cup, they suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Tier Three side Plymouth Argyle two weeks ago.

Previous Meetings...

The two sides have already faced each other this season in the league, just days after the postponed Cup game, battling to a goalless draw. Last season, both teams won in the season’s first meeting. Rovers won 4-0 at home with Meg Javis netting twice, while Bridgwater edged the return fixture 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from defender Manfy Sharpe.
