Bristol Rovers can confirm that Joel Senior has departed the Club after Manager Steve Evans sanctioned the move at the request of the player and his personal situation.
Senior switched to Rovers in 2024 from Morecambe and made 58 appearances in all competitions for the Pirates across his two seasons at The Memorial Stadium.
Manager Steve Evans said: “At my end-of-season meetings back in May, Joel Senior and I had an open discussion as we always do, and Joel stated at that stage that he would like to be allowed to leave the Football Club as he wanted to move closer to his family.
“The lad has been excellent for me, a great lad too, but he was in a difficult place.
"Joel confirmed that it has been difficult at times. I have been thinking this through for some time, and in my recent board meeting, I raised this with our Chairman. The Chairman is a big family man himself, and he understood the position Joel was in. He, in turn, allowed me to sanction Joel leaving. He goes with everyone at Bristol Rovers Football Club’s best wishes for the future.
"After the players' release was sanctioned by the board, I knew Joel would be leaving, so Gasheads will become aware very shortly that I have moved quickly to sign a replacement and hopefully, that will be in front of our supporters shortly."
Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to thank Joel for his efforts during his time in the blue-and-white quarters and wishes him every success in the next stage of his career.
