Jarvis hits double hat-trick in Gas’ 9-0 rout against Worthing

Worthing A Report

Bristol Rovers produced a stunning attacking display on the road as they swept aside Worthing FC with a 9-0 victory, led by an unforgettable performance from Meg Jarvis, who scored six goals.

The Gas started brightly, with Layah Douglas whipping in a dangerous cross that found Annys Turner, but the winger fired over. Moments later, Turner delivered again with a teasing low ball across the face of goal, narrowly missing Chloe Bassett at the far post.

Rovers didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock. In the 16th minute,  Jarvis raced through on goal, collected the rebound from her initial effort, and tapped home from close range. Just a minute later, she doubled her tally, smashing in a cut-back from Turner after a brilliant move down the wing.

The visitors continued to press and nearly added a third when Bassett’s volley was blocked by Hunkin in the Worthing goal. But on 43 minutes, Rovers struck again - Bassett rattled the crossbar before Turner was quickest to react, firing in to make it three.

Early in the second half, the Gas extended their lead. On 49 minutes, Abbey Hately marked her first goal for the club, coolly finishing to make it 4-0 and put Rovers firmly in control.

Worthing simply had no answer to Rovers’ relentless attacking play. Jarvis added her fourth on 75 minutes, before quickly grabbing two more in a devastating spell to take her tally to six.

There was still time for more late drama, with substitute Amelie Gould coming off the bench to fire home Rovers’ ninth in stoppage time.

When the final whistle blew, the scoreline read Worthing 0-9 Bristol Rovers - a ruthless display of finishing and team play, with Jarvis taking the headlines but every player contributing to an emphatic away victory.
