The hosts were looking to strengthen their promotion campaign with a third straight victory in Sky Bet League Two, going inches away from breaking the deadlock when Luke Offord smashed the bar, and Jon Mellish hit the post, either side of a golden chance for Fabrizio Cavegn.
He raced one-on-one with Craig MacGillivray after a cute pass from Shaq Forde. However, his attempt was pushed awayby the goalkeeper. Instead, the Dons gained the lead before half-time. Callum Paterson scored it, getting on the end of Aaron Collins' cross to convert from close range.
There were fewer chances after the restart. New addition Mees Rijks whipped a shot over almost immediately after coming on for his debut, Shaq Forde flicked a header over, and Gethin Jones had a shot saved by Brad Young.
