The Railwaymen had plenty of confidence going into the contest after beating Tranmere Rovers 4-1 in their last outing, and went into an early lead when Emre Tezget crashed a cutback into the top corner with a first-time finish.
However, the Pirates responded brilliantly in Steve Evans' first fixture as Head Coach. Callum Morton, whom the 63-year-old brought in for his first start, latched onto a long ball from Alfie Kilgour and went around Sam Waller to score into an empty net.
The hosts then went down to ten men when Adrien Thibaut was sent off, but the Pirates could not find the goal that would have secured them all three points. Luke Thomas went the closest after racing through one-on-one, but his attempt was pushed away.
