Bristol Rovers had the better chances in the first half and controlled the contest. Ellis Harrison volleyed over from inside the box before Fabrizio Cavegn had a low shot from the edge that was pushed away by Joe Day.
The Gas then went close twice before the hour mark. Harrison got on the end of Jack Cotterill's free-kick from the left, but could not turn his attempt on target before Cotterill then saw a strike deflect off a defender and the post before going out for a corner.
The Robins then scored the only goal of the contest 20 minutes from the end. Jonathon Tomkinson got on the end of a deep corner from Jordan Thomas to give the hosts all three points.
