Freddie Issaka joins Bristol Rovers on loan

Issaka signs

Bristol Rovers is pleased to complete the loan signing of Freddie Issaka from Sky Bet League One team Plymouth Argyle.

Young attacker Issaka becomes the thirteenth signing of the summer transfer window for the Gas and will spend the 2025/26 campaign on loan with Darrell Clarke’s Pirates.

Head Coach Darrell Clarke said: “Freddie is a talented and brave attacker who has already performed well in the Championship and League One despite his youthful age.

“His progress in recent seasons with Plymouth has been impressive and we’re happy to welcome him to Rovers as he continues his development.”

Director of Football Ricky Martin said: “Freddie has electric pace to burn and a fearless ability to take on opponents one-v-one.

“Bringing Freddie in on loan is another piece in this window for us and we know he is a really exciting attacking option that I’m sure, with the support of the Gasheads, will bring plenty of memorable, game-changing moments.”

Born in Truro, Issaka has spent his entire career to date with Plymouth Argyle, becoming the Pilgrims’ youngest-ever player at 15 years and 34 days when he featured as a substitute in a Carabao Cup fixture against Newport County in August 2021.

Having made his EFL debut in a Sky Bet League One draw against Lincoln City in December 2022, the teenager signed his first professional deal in July 2023 with Argyle, following up with another new contract in 2024.

Isaaka continued to earn more appearances for Argyle, featuring nine times in the 2023/24 campaign in all competitions, followed by 20 outings in the 2024/25 season, including 19 in the EFL Championship – including his first senior goal in a 3-3 draw with Preston North End.

The winger has featured 39 times in all competitions for Plymouth Argyle and has represented Wales at U19s level, playing 14 times for the youth international side.

Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to welcome Freddie to the Club and wish him well in his loan at the Gas.
