The Pirates were looking for their third straight win in the fourth tier against a U's team in strong form, with the Gas gaining the lead in style through Tom James, who blasted a volley into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Rovers controlled the match from that point onwards, with Richie Smallwood seeing powerful efforts either saved or blocked, and Fabrizio Cavegn and Ciarán Kelly having low shots saved before the Gas confirmed the three points in the final moments.
Racing forward on the counter, Tommy Leigh curled the ball towards Ellis Harrison, who converted a first-time effort into the back of the net for a ninth straight league win at The Mem.
