The Pirates looked to make history with a club-record 11th straight home win and came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half, with Shaq Forde and Ellis Harrison testing Jack Bycroft with low shots.
Goalless at half-time, the second half started quietly before a moment of magic from Fabrizio Cavegn proved decisive. Kofi Balmer's cross from the right was flicked by Alfie Kilgour towards the striker, who sent an overhead kick into the back of the net.
The Pirates remained in control and went close to doubling their lead through Reiss Russell-Denny's swerving shot that was directed behind by the goalkeeper. Ultimately, the Gas held on to all three points in what was a historic afternoon for everyone at the club.
