Clinton Mola | Barnet defeat tough to take

CLINTON MOLA

Clinton Mola said Bristol Rovers' 3-1 defeat to Barnet was tough to take after dominating most of the contest.

The Bees left it late to complete a comeback, with Adam Senior levelling six minutes before Tommy Leigh was sent off after a lunging tackle on Charlie Lakin.

Barnet had the momentum, with Zac Williams slamming a strike into the top corner before Kabongo Tshimanga secured the win, scoring in the final seconds. The Bees' goals came after a dominant Rovers display, who scored in the first four minutes through Ellis Harrison and had countless chances to extend their lead.

Speaking to the media, Mola was disappointed with how the game got away from the Gas after a strong performance for the most part.

REFLECTIONS ON THE GAME

“It's a tough one to take today. It’s a frustrating one because we felt like we were on top for so long in the game, and we could have gone on to get the second, the third, and maybe even a fourth.

“But then, one lapse of concentration, we gift them a goal and then a red card. Then, all momentum has just gone from them, but it's a hard one to take, but we've got to just look forward.

“Obviously now it's hard, everyone's dejected, everyone is upset, but I feel like if they're top of the league and we went toe-to-toe against them, even more, we dominated in large spells. So, I think we fancy our chances this season, and if we can perform like that against good teams, we've given ourselves a platform.”

CONCEDING AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY

“It just shows in football that you've got to stay concentrated for the full 90 minutes; you can never think you're safe in a game because even in the last ten, we were comfortable.

“We were managing the counter-attacks, and we were creating our own chances, and then in the last ten, we just capitulated with all the events. So, we’ve got to learn from this and next game, we’ve got to try and put it right.”

TOMMY LEIGH

“It's frustrating because Tommy is such an asset for us, and to have him out for another - I don't know how long - two, three games again. We're going to lose a bit.

“Obviously, his creativity. The boys are fuming, and I know he's fuming, and I haven't seen it. I haven't seen the challenge, and so I don't know if it's a clear red or not. We're going to miss Tommy, as he's a player that we do need.”

MOVING FORWARD

“We're just going to have to keep doing what we're doing, and if we perform like this for the remainder of the games, I think we will definitely be alright.

“We'll definitely win a lot of games, and we just have to bring this into our next game, which is Shrewsbury away. We know our away form right now is not the best, so we need to pick it up and try to get a win."

MISSED CHANCE TO GET ANOTHER WIN AT THE MEM

"We should have had all three [points], and it is upsetting because we did have a record, and we had a chance to obviously extend it and against a side that’s top of the league as well, would have been a perfect day. But we’ve got to just look forward to our next game now.”

FEELINGS AFTER A DEFEAT

“Obviously, it's not nice. I hate losing football matches. I hate being on a losing side. I'm a competitive player, and I think you see it in how I play, and days like today, they're going to hurt. It should hurt. I think it should hurt, but in a good way, and we've got to use that fuel for next weekend.”
