Bristol unites at Memorial Gates Remembrance Service

Laying Of The Wreaths

Bristol Rovers Football Club welcomed members of the local community and representatives from neighbouring teams for the annual Laying Of The Wreaths at The Memorial Gates.

Rovers, Bristol Football Club (RFU) and Bristol City Sports congregated at The Memorial Gates on Friday 7 November to remember those who lost their lives in both the First and Second World War – an annual tradition at The Memorial Gates since 1921.

Three hundred rugby players from Bristol are believed to have lost their lives in the First World War and, since then, players and representatives from those teams have returned, alongside Bristol Rovers, to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Men’s first-team captain Alfie Kilgour was joined by teammates Josh McEachran and Kasper Lopata as representatives from the team. Director Of Football Ricky Martin and Director Of Commercial & Revenue Ritchie Bates were also in attendance, while Khaled Alkandari represented the Board Of Directors.

Father Michael Healy led the service, joined by Reverand Wayne Massey of Bristol Rovers, Reverand Richard Evans from Bristol Bears, Reverand Chris Jones from Bristol City Sports, Chaplain Esther Legg-Bagg of Bristol City Women and Colonel Jane Thompson.
