Bristol Rovers welcomes and is delighted to see the opening of Ashley Down Train Station and the positive impact that it will have on the Club and its supporters.
The station will be open tomorrow, Saturday 28 September, meaning fans can walk from the station to The Memorial Stadium in approximately fourteen minutes for our Sky Bet League One fixture against Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow and future fixtures.
The additional transport link helps the Club reduce our carbon footprint and the negative environmental impact by minimising the reliance on cars and buses.
The Club was well represented in the official opening, with mascots Captain Gas and Irene in attendance, as well as Commercial & Revenue Director Ritchie Bates, Head of Stadium & Safety James Hillier and Community Trust CEO Adam Tutton.
West of England Metro Mayor Dan Norris and Labour MP for North West Bristol, and Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones were also there for the grand opening.
Funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, with contributions from Great Western Railway (GWR) and Bristol City Council, those living in the north of Bristol will have their own station after almost 60 years. It has two platforms and will be served by existing hourly rail services between Bristol Temple Meads and Filton Abbey Wood.
James Hillier said "The new station is a great asset to the local community and provides a sustainable alternative for supporters to travel to the stadium on match days. We encourage fans to use the new station where possible as part of its commitment to reduce car usage."
