Bristol Rovers is delighted to confirm the loan signing of midfielder Kane Thompson-Sommers from Sky Bet League Two side Milton Keynes Dons.
The midfielder is the Pirates' third addition of the January transfer window and will wear the No14 shirt for the Club.
The 25-year-old began his youth career with Tottenham Hotspur and had a spell in non-league football before playing 49 times for the Dons across all competitions, with 25 of those coming in the 2025/26 campaign.
"It feels great to be at Bristol Rovers," he said. "I am buzzing to be here. To have the opportunity to join such a good Club and contribute for the rest of the season, I'm very excited.
"The meeting with Steve Evans was great. The gaffer only said good things, and I knew straight after I spoke to him that this is where I wanted to come and play my football. I'm really excited to get going under the gaffer and meet all of the players. I can't wait to get going and play in front of the Gasheads, as I know it's a great fanbase."
Steve Evans is looking forward to working with Rovers' newest addition and detailed what the midfielder will bring to the squad.
"Kane is a really good midfield player who can play as a six, an eight or a ten," he said. "He’s got a wand of a left foot and he gets around the pitch with good energy levels.
"He’s a player that has been in high demand in this transfer window and I had a good meeting with him. He’s convinced that his immediate future is here with us and I’m looking forward to working with him."
Director Of Football Ricky Martin said: "We are happy to welcome Kane to the Club. There was a lot of competition for his services in the transfer window, and I am happy he feels the best thing for his short-term future is to spend the rest of the season on loan with us.
"Kane is a dynamic, energetic, box-to-box player who will be eager to make an impact across the pitch for Bristol Rovers. He brings a good level of League Two experience with him and will complement our other options in the midfield area."
Born in London in December 2000, Thompson-Sommers started at Spurs before moving to Birmingham City's academy in 2016. He made his first senior appearance in football on loan at Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division club Cockfosters in the 2018/19 campaign, before a temporary spell at National League club Woking.
Moving on loan to the Cardinals for the second half of the campaign, he made his debut off the bench in a 3-2 defeat to Halifax Town before scoring his first goal in an emphatic 4-0 triumph away at Torquay United.
After departing Birmingham in 2022, Thompson-Sommers signed for National League North side Hereford and made 33 appearances, with 30 starts, scoring twice. He only spent one season with the Bulls and returned to the National League when he signed for Halifax Town ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The midfielder impressed in his 31 games for the Shay and made a permanent move to MK Dons. Thompson-Sommers made his EFL debut in a 1-0 defeat to Walsall in September and played 23 times in Sky Bet League Two in his debut campaign at the Dons, scoring twice.
This season, the 25-year-old has played 19 times in the league, starting six of those games, with his only goal coming in a 2-2 draw against Tranmere Rovers.
Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to warmly welcome Kane to the Club and wish him well in his career with the Pirates.
