Bristol Rovers is delighted to announce the signing of striker Joe Quigley from fellow Sky Bet League Two outfit Oldham Athletic for an undisclosed fee, subject to EFL approval.
Forward Quigley has put pen to paper on a contract until 2028 with the Pirates and will wear the No27 shirt in the blue-and-white quarters.
The 29-year-old has played over 300 matches and has scored three times in the fourth tier for the Latics this term. He is Rovers' seventh January addition after Ryan De Havilland, Kofi Balmer, Kane Thompson-Sommers, Riley Harbottle, Yusuf Akhimrich and Mees Rijks.
"I'm delighted to be at Bristol Rovers," he said. "It was a bit of a rush as Deadline Day normally is, but I'm delighted to be here and get going. I spoke to the gaffer, and having played at The Mem before, I know that it's a massive Club with huge potential, so it was a no-brainer.
"I can't wait to get going. Once you've signed, you want that first game and that first appearance to really feel it and get going."
Steve Evans, Bristol Rovers Head Coach, said: “I’ve known Joe as an opponent for many years, and up-close against my teams, and I can say our centre-backs have never had an easy afternoon when he’s been in the opposition side.
"The lad has never been known as a big goalscorer, but he has an excellent reputation as a goal creator, and a fierce competitor. Every manager knows how essential that role is in the modern-day game particularly in the EFL. He brings a huge strength in the front areas in terms of physicality and is simply brilliant in the air too.
“He joins us now and becomes part of a group which is developing nicely and that will give us the ability for the team to play in different styles, depending on our opponents."
Born in December 1996, Quigley joined Bournemouth's academy in 2007 and got his first taste of senior football on loan at Southern League Premier Division Poole Town, where he scored five times in 23 appearances, including on his debut in a 3-0 victory over Sholing.
National League loans to Torquay United, Wrexham and Woking in the 2025/16 term followed before getting his first switch to the Football League with a temporary spell at Gillingham in League One, netting once in ten games.
The striker went on two more loan spells away at Newport County and Boreham Wood before making his first permanent move away, transferring to Maidstone United ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. However, his time at the Stones was short, and he moved to Bromley a few months later.
He played six times for the Ravens that season, going on loan to Eastbourne Borough and Havant and Waterlooville before moving to Dagenham & Redbridge permanently. The forward netted five goals in 30 appearances in the 2019/20 season before going to Yeovil Town.
The forward signed for the Glovers in October 2020 and scored 19 goals in 58 appearances in all competitions before moving to fellow National League side Chesterfield in January 2022. He played 107 times and scored 21 goals in just over two and a half years at the Spireites. The 2023/24 season was his most memorable one at Chesterfield, where he netted 11 times in 35 National League games to help his side to the title and promotion back to Sky Bet League Two.
Quigley moved to Forest Green Rovers in August 2024. After one year at the club, he moved to Oldham Athletic before the start of the 2025/26 term, with the striker scoring three goals in 19 appearances in the fourth tier, with his last goal coming in a 3-0 triumph over Newport County in November.
Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to warmly welcome Joe to the Club and wishes him every success in the blue-and-white quarters.
