Bobby Kamwa was one of Newport County's heroes last season, but is now coming up against the Exiles for the first time since departing in the summer and wants to get a victory over his former side.
The team from South Wales were battling against relegation at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, with Kamwa scoring three goals in three matches. The 26-year-old netted a brace in a 3-2 victory over Oldham Athletic and a crucial winner over Barrow.
However, the winger is now in the blue-and-white quarters after penning a two-year deal at Rovers in June. He has made two appearances off the bench against Peterborough United and York and is working towards his first start for the Gas.
Speaking to the media, Kamwa previewed the clash against his former side and is looking to grab all three points.
SETTLING IN AT ROVERS
"Very well. Obviously, the boys have been good to me, the staff too, and since I've been here, I've just been raring to go. It’s a competitive squad. It's good because everyone's fighting for positions, but as I said, I always back myself, and I can't wait to get a start."
READY TO FACE NEWPORT
"It happened to be the second game of the season, and I'm looking forward to it. It was a tough decision [to leave] because I had a lot of love from the fans there. But career-wise, I needed a step up, and I thought this move would be that step. Now I'm a Rovers player, and all my focus is on Rovers."
NEWPORT'S SURVIVAL LAST SEASON
"It was massive for the city. I'm glad we managed to stay up because it was a nervous season. They've always been deemed likely to go down, everyone saying it, but they always find a way. I do wish them the best. I’ll be honest, that's not my business anymore. I'm a Rovers player now, so I'm looking to beat them on Saturday.
BEST POSITION
"Left wing. I think that's where the team can get the best out of me. It does help if you can play in the middle or on the right. It's a competitive team. I'll try to do a job wherever I'm put, but you'll get the best out of me on the left side."
REFLECTIONS ON YORK
"I think we needed that because it's woken us up a bit. I think this year we'll have a good go. This changing room and the boys we've got — it's a very competitive group and probably one of the best sides I've seen in League Two. I reckon we'll be all right this season.
"I had a few other offers, but from playing Rovers last season, I thought there's something different with this team. It was a no-brainer when the opportunity came up. I thought, I need a promotion on my CV, so that's why I came here."
LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING AT THE MEM
"Even in pre-season it was good vibes, electric. I imagine what the season will be like. I can't wait to get going."
