An early goal proved decisive as Bristol Rovers Women secured a 1-0 victory away to Ascot United Women in their final game of 2025, in the FA Women’s National League on Sunday.
The Gas struck inside the opening three minutes, with Abbey Hateley breaking down the left flank before cutting the ball across for Chloe Bassett to tap home, a moment of quality that ultimately separated the two sides.
Rovers had edged the reverse fixture by the same scoreline on the opening day of the season and arrived knowing the importance of an early foothold against a determined Ascot side. Despite naming a defensively solid setup, the hosts were unable to prevent Rovers from taking control early on.
An enforced change saw Meg Jarvis withdraw through injury after 14 minutes, with Amelie Gould introduced from the bench, as Rovers continued to manage the game with discipline and composure.
The second half saw Ascot increase the tempo and apply sustained pressure, forcing Rovers to defend resolutely for long periods. Goalkeeper George Hunt was alert throughout, producing an important early block after the break, while the back line stood firm in the face of a physical and high-intensity challenge.
Despite Ascot’s late push and appeals inside the penalty area, Rovers remained composed to see out the contest and secure all three points on the road.
