Bristol Rovers is delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Arvin Appiah.
Appiah moves to the Gas after leaving Segunda División side Almería in the summer and will wear the No28 shirt in the blue-and-white quarters.
The 25-year-old has represented England at youth level and played 14 times for Amiens in Ligue 2 last season. Appiah has also played football in Spain, Portugal and England, featuring in the Sky Bet Championship for Nottingham Forest and Rotherham United.
"I'm grateful and honoured to be here," said Appiah. "I can't wait to get on the pitch after being out for so long. I'm happy to be back in a footballing environment, and it's a good one, so I can't complain.
"Steve knows what I can do and what I can bring to this team. He just wants me to get my confidence back up, and I am grateful to him for putting that trust back in me. Now, I have got to show it on the pitch. So, I am raring to go.
"I can't wait to meet all of the fans at The Mem and to get this team to where it belongs."
Steve Evans said: "Arvin is a young man whom I first worked with during my time at Rotherham United. That was in the Championship. His performances were very impressive.
"He came to my attention again when he played against us for Portsmouth in pre-season. I got in touch with Arvin when I understood he was still a free agent and he was keen to see us. He has been with us for well over a week. Our supporters will like the boy for sure, and he is naturally two-footed, so they will not know which is his stronger foot.
"He has got a wonderful talent. He can pass, dribble, shoot and play as a six, an eight, a ten, a left wing-back and a left winger. This is a real asset for us because we fought really hard, as he had considerable interest from clubs in England and Scotland, and I am really grateful to our chairman and board for allowing us to do this on the day an SPL side rang his phone every 30 minutes."
Born in Amsterdam in January 2001, Appiah came through Nottingham Forest's academy after moving to the city at age six. The midfielder made his debut for the Reds in October 2018, coming off the bench to score in their 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Burton Albion.
Appiah made eight appearances for Forest across all competitions before signing for Segunda División side Almería in September 2019. The 25-year-old made 21 league appearances in his first campaign at the Rojiblancos but played only once the following season, joining Lugo on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 term.
On his return to Almería, Appiah played 31 times in the Segunda División during the 2021/22 season, helping the club win the league and gain promotion to La Liga.
Appiah then made loan spells at Segunda División teams Tenerife and Málaga in the 2022/23 season before returning to England the following campaign, playing 29 times in the Sky Bet Championship during a loan move at Rotherham United.
The 25-year-old also left Almería on loan in the previous two seasons, appearing 26 times in the Primeira Liga for Nacional in the 2024/25 campaign and 14 times for Ligue 2 side Amiens last term.
Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to welcome Arvin to the Club and wishes him every success in his time with the Pirates.
