Alfie Kilgour was proud of his Bristol Rovers team after they entered the club's history books with their win over Exeter City at The Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates knew an 11th straight home league win would be a club record, but they had to battle to beat a tough Grecians side. With the game level after an hour, a moment of magic was required, and Fabrizio Cavegn delivered exactly that.
Kilgour got the assist to his name on his first appearance of the 2026/27 campaign, with the defender delighted to captain his boyhood club in a historic fixture.
Speaking to BRTV after the game, Kilgour believes his team have made The Mem a real fortress and thanked Gasheads, who have been right behind the team since the start of the winning run in February.
REFLECTIONS ON THE GAME
"It’s absolutely amazing. Obviously, we had the incentive before the game, and it took everyone to put it into action and get the job done. I’m very proud of all the lads and glad we could be a part of history and give the fans what they deserved."
MAKING HISTORY
"It feels like a lifetime ago [since the start of the winning run]. Consistency, grinding out the wins, and today it was mentioned about the record and how we had to get the job done. A clean sheet, a great goal from Fab, and a great day. I’m incredibly proud on a personal note to have captained the side and be a part of it, in terms of making history and being out there."
BACK IN THE TEAM
"It’s been hard coming back. I’ve had little niggles here and there with my double hernia operation, which hasn’t been easy, but ultimately, I’ve stuck to my principles as I do every day – try and be the ultimate professional, live right, do things right at the training ground – and I got given my chance today. I came in and did what I could do.
"I did my best and did my job, along with every single player and every single lad that came on and was ready to come on. It’s not just me, it takes everybody, but I missed it, so it was good to be out there and back. Going to war at 3pm on a Saturday is what I live for, so it’s good to be back out there."
CLEAN SHEET
"Superb. Brad behind us didn’t shut up all game. Ciarán and Kofi were absolutely superb. We complimented each other very well, we worked together, we were all vocal, we all. kept each other switched on. Jack Sparkes was back in as well – a brilliant shift from him and Tom James at right wing-back. Richie, Clint and the shift from everybody at the front with pressing – don't get me wrong, at some points it wasn’t pretty, but we’ve come off the pitch with three points, a clean sheet and a 1-0 win. No qualms, good efforts, big efforts. Time to rest up, go again next week and start preparing right."
FABRIZIO’S GOAL
"He’s got that. He’s a fox in the box. He grafts so hard for the team – his running stats are through the roof week in, week out. He’s humble and he’s hardworking. He’s a great lad and a great person, so I’m pleased for him. Another goal in, and hopefully he gets plenty more of them. Great finish."
GETTING AN ASSIST
"I’m going to take the assist. It flicked off something, so even if it was a hair on the top of my head, I’ll take the assist. We’ve been trying to work on set pieces, as we have done all week. It’s a big part of our game, obviously, with Kofi’s throw-ins, and we have to capitalise on it and be better at it. To score from that is brilliant. I’m pleased for all the lads and pleased for Fab getting his goal."
GASHEADS AT THE MEM
"They always get called the twelfth man, and they absolutely were today. They didn’t stop singing, the atmosphere was brilliant. Every time I walk out on that pitch, it’s goosebumps and seeing my family and my friends in the stands, seeing the crowd right behind us gives me that boost. This place is turning into a fortress. Fair play to the gaffer coming in and turning it around – February feels like a lifetime ago.
"Grinding out all of those wins – don't get me wrong – sometimes is not pretty. Sometimes we’ll play well and lose, sometimes we won’t play well and win games. Ultimately, today was a brilliant shift, a 1-0 win. The fans are always, always superb, and it was an absolute privilege to play in front of them and represent this club, as it is every game."
