Kamil Conteh: We want to end the season strongly

Kamil Conteh is eager to end the season on a high and secure three points in Bristol Rovers’ closing match of the campaign at Wigan Athletic.

Conteh and his Rovers teammates travel up to the DW Stadium to face the Latics on Saturday and know the right result would put them on 60 points, above this weekend’s opponents in the final League One standings.

“We want to end the season strongly, so it gives us a good platform going into next season,” Conteh said. “We want to put on a good performance and then hopefully that gets us a win, which would be the best way to end the campaign.”

Having joined the Club from Grimsby in January, Conteh has settled into life in Bristol quickly. The midfielder has adapted to his new surroundings, got used to the area, and is enjoying life in the South West with the Gas.

“When I came in, we had two days before a game, so I had to get to know everyone as quickly as possible and then play the game,” he reflected. “It was good to get a good win in my first start.

“Since then, things have been up and down, but I feel like it’s gone well so far. When you come into a new Club you have to get familiar with the players, the staff, but everyone here has been so helpful. It’s been a good process and I’m enjoying it here.”

Considering the season on the whole, Rovers have picked up some impressive results against sides at the top end of the table, including the likes of Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers.

While Conteh knows those wins are important, the 21-year-old feels consistency is even more essential if the Gas are to push at the right end of the division in the new campaign.

He added. “Consistency is key. The teams that get promoted are the ones who play well week in, week out.

“In the games I’ve played in against those better teams, we’ve not got the results we’ve wanted but we’ve put in some good performances. Taking that into next season, we need to be more ruthless and get the wins on the board.”
