Bristol Rovers FC were delighted to welcome Thangam Debbonaire MP to the Memorial Stadium for last Tuesday’s fixture against Reading.
The MP for Bristol West and Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport attended the Sky Bet League One match as a guest of Club Chairman Hussain AlSaeed, visiting a ground which forms part of the constituency she has represented since 2015.
Prior to kick-off, the two met at the Memorial Stadium to discuss the introduction of the Football Governance Bill to Parliament and Mr. AlSaeed’s ambitious plans for Bristol Rovers.
“It was a great privilege to welcome Thangam to The Mem,” Mr. AlSaeed said. “I know Thangam, like myself, is a proponent of sustainable growth at Bristol Rovers and is also eager to see the Club reach its full potential.
“It was a pleasure to share ideas around our plans for development across the Memorial Stadium, our training facility at The Quarters and in our community projects - goals that Thangam expressed full support for - and also take the opportunity to talk regarding the Football Governance Bill; legislation that has the complete backing of the Club and our local MP.”
Thangam Debbonaire MP said: “I enjoyed meeting with Bristol Rovers’ leadership team before heading down to the terrace for the game last week.
“It was exciting to hear about their ambitious plans for growth, how they’re championing our great women’s team and engaging with fans. I look forward to continuing to work closely with the Club.
“As Sports Secretary in a Labour government, I will support clubs like Rovers to grow and give fans a greater say in the running of their clubs. I hope all the hard work being put in by players and staff to get closer to promotion pays off next season.”
