PICK UP A COPY OF OUR MATCHDAY PROGRAMME!

27 January 2017

If you are coming to The Memorial Stadium for our game against Swindon Town, then we hope you will pick up a matchday programme.

In this issue manager Darrell Clarke pens his own notes and we carry interviews with two of our four new signings, goalkeeper Joe Lumley and defender Joe Partington who were both impressed by the number of Gasheads at last week’s game at Walsall and who are looking forward to their first game at The Mem.

Our centre spread is given over to a poster of Rory Gaffney, ideal for the younger members of the family to get signed as a keepsake.

We have already met Swindon twice this season (one and a half really!) although the game at the County Ground in August was called off in the second half because of torrential rain. In this issue we look back to our game against them in December 2011. That game ended 1-1 with Danny Woodards scoring for The Gas and Paul Caddis for Swindon.

Amazingly, it’s 20 years since we played our first game at The Memorial Stadium and that fact is celebrated by historian Leigh Edwards, who looks back at key moments for the club in the month of January over the course of those 20 years.

We also bring you news and views from our support organisations, namely The Supporters Club, Helpline, The Presidents Club and The Young Pirates.

Our Academy section brings you no fewer than five match reports, three from the Central League, one from the Youth Alliance and one featuring our U-16 side who have just won a cup!

We also carry a double page spread with your thoughts and comments on former Rovers centre half Check out our Fanzone pages, where we celebrate birthdays, remember former fans and bring you news of some of the fundraising efforts of some of our supporters

The Name’s the Same, an article by Stephen Byrne, looks at two players by the name of Hughes, Jeff, who scored 28 goals in 129 league games for The Gas and Clarence, who scored twice in five Southern League games in 1919!

Our ‘Famous Against The Gas’ series of photos features former Wales and Swindon player Paul Bodin (Billy’s Dad), in action against Rovers October 1990.

And there’s more! With 84 pages to get through, we believe there is something for everyone in this season’s programme and hope that as many of you as possible will purchase a copy on Saturday and for the rest of the season.

Priced at only £3.00 it really is a bargain!

The Pirate is available from the club shop, online, or from sellers around the ground…don’t forget to buy yours!
