FOUR SCHOLARS GIVEN PRO CONTRACTS

9 April 2014

Three players released by the club

It’s that time of year when decisions are being made on the future of our scholars and of the eight second year boys, four will remain with us on pro contracts next season.

Three others have been released, while a final decision has yet to be made on one of the lads.

We were already aware that Jamie Lucas and Aaron Ward-Baptiste had been offered deals for next season, and they will be joined by Dominic Thomas and Danny Greenslade.

Of those two, Tom Curtis says; “Dominic is a central midfielder and our U-18 skipper and I think his attitude and commitment have really got him through this year.

“He’s a player who wants to work hard and improve. It’s been good to have him around the dressing room and he has been a good influence on the other players and fully deserves his opportunity.

“Danny is a left back who is injured at the moment, but he has been a really strong and consistent performer for us this season.

“We hope all four players can go on and make an impact with us next season.”

It’s possible they may be joined by Trey Anderson.

Tom said: “We have decided to give Trey a few more games, to give Darrell Clarke the chance to see him in action as he hasn’t seen him play on too many occasions.”

The three players released are Carlos Barra, Aaron Bryan and Chad Douglas and all three are now looking for other clubs.

“It’s never an easy time and it’s really difficult for everyone,” said Tom, “they are all young men and are affected by any decisions taken on them or their mates.

“For those lads who will still be here next season, it’s time for them to focus and get used to concentrating on themselves and their own development.”
